Projects: Z-Zero Plate:
This is definitely one of the BEST Things that I've ever done to increase my productivity on my CNC Milling Machine and CNC Router.
You won't regret spending the time to put one of these together.
Details:
- Basically you place an insulated plate on your workpiece.
- The plate is connected to one side of an input on the Break Out Board - either Ground or Positive - it really doesn't matter.
- A gator clip is attached to the cutting tool, that is connected to the other side of an input on the Break Out Board.
- You click a button on your re-programmed Mach3 Screen (Don't worry - this isn't that hard to do, and there are plenty of pre-made screens to just Drag-and-Drop to your directory to get working.) - and like magic - the tool bit comes down slowly, touches off the plate when contact is made, subtracts the height of the plate!
- Within 0.001's of an inch!
- All for the cost of a piece of metal from the scrapbox and some wiring and programming time!
- Compare that to manually doing this.
- Plus, it's just freaking cool!
- This is how I did it, and I will document my build - but here are the instructions:
- A great build log with complete instructions on how to do this - over on CNCZone.com
